CLARKSVILLE – Austin Peay State University women's tennis team looks to pick up its first win of the 2022 season against Middle Tennessee in a 2:45 p.m., Sunday match at the Evansville Tennis Center in Evansville, Indiana.
The Governors dropped matches against Central Arkansas and Arkansas during their season-opening weekend in North Little Rock, Arkansas, but had strong showings throughout the lineup.
Freshman Yu-Hua Cheng led APSU with a pair of victories last weekend. The New Taipei City, Taiwan native picked up a singles win over Central Arkansas, Saturday, before teaming with senior Martina Paladini-Jennings and winning a doubles match against Arkansas the following day. Fellow freshman Denise Torrealba earned her first-career victory in duals action on the No. 2 doubles court against UCA alongside senior Honoka Nakanishi.
Middle Tennessee has lost its last four matches and enters Sunday's contest with a 1-5 record and 0-1 mark in Conference USA play and were swept by East Tennessee State, Friday, in their home opener.
MTSU returns two of its three All-Conference USA selections from the spring in Zani Barnard and Love-Star Alexis who were each named to the C-USA Doubles Second Team last season.
In the last meeting between the Govs and Blue Raiders, Feb. 27, 2021, Jana Leder and Aleks Topalovic defeated the MTSU's All-Conference tandem 6-4 on the No. 2 double court; however, MTSU stormed back to claim four of five singles matches and take the victory.
