CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University head men's basketball coach Corey Gipson continues to strengthen his inaugural staff with the addition of Joey Heimel, Travis Allen, and Kellen Haymon ahead of the Governors' 2023-24 campaign.
Heimel comes to Clarksville after spending last season as a graduate assistant at Northwestern State with Gipson.
During his year in Natchitoches, Louisiana, Heimel assisted with game-strategy preparation, oversaw video game film and the team's database, and assisted the coaching staff with in-game strategy.
Prior to his season with the Demons, Heimel was an assistant coach at Mayville State, 2021-22, assisting with recruiting, game strategy, travel operations, and more.
Heimel also served as a Bubble Restart Team Attendant for the National Basketball Association, July-August 2020, assisting equipment managers with locker-room setup, organizing team benches, running team drills, and transporting equipment to team busses.
Prior to serving as a volunteer assistant at Minnesota State during the 2019-20 season, Heimel was a member of the USA Basketball Support Staff, assisting in drills, preparing team gear, setting up for special events, and more.
A 2019 graduate of Saint John's, Heimel was a member of his alma mater's staff from 2016-19 where he served as a team manager and video coordinator.
Allen was a graduate assistant for two seasons at Northwestern State and served as the assistant director of basketball operations.
His various duties for the Demons included team meal logistics, assisting with travel and expense reports, and practice support.
Prior to arriving in Natchitoches, Allen was the head student Manager at Grand Canyon and assisted in training, organizing, and directing the Lopes' student manager staff. He also performed numerous duties such as assisting in practices, weight training, travel, and recruiting operations.
Allen co-founded Ball Out Phoenix, which is a basketball camp for underprivileged youth in West Phoenix. He also volunteered at the 2017 Final Four in Glendale, Arizona.
Haymon comes to Clarksville after serving previously serving student manager and graduate assistant at Northwestern State.
He began his career as a student manager for the Demons, Aug. 2020-July 2022, and assisted with on-court training, student-athlete academics, and other duties as assigned.
A Anacoco, Louisiana native, Haymon was Gipson's graduate assistant last season, assisting with on-court training and practices, operations, community outreach programs, and team gear.
