CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – With Atlantic Sun Conference play underway for basketball teams, the Austin Peay Athletics Department and Five Star Radio Group present the weekly Austin Peay Coaches Show with head men's basketball coach Corey Gipson at 6 p.m., Tuesday, at Buffalo Wild Wings on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard.
Gipson joins host Brian Rives to recap the Governors' opening week of ASUN play, in which the program split a pair of contests in the Sunshine State. The two then look ahead to the Govs' first homestand of the season, as they open three-straight games on Gary Mathews Court at F&M Bank Arena with a 7 p.m., Thursday contest against ASUN newcomer, West Georgia.
Austin Peay opened ASUN Conference play with a 16-point comeback to defeat North Florida 97-89 in Jacksonville last Thursday. Anton Brookshire highlighted APSU's victory over the Ospreys with 25 points, including a 14-for-14 night at the line. Sai Witt and LJ Thomas both scored 23 points in the victory as well, marking the first time a trio of Govs have scored 20-plus points in the same game since last season's matchup against UNF in the regular season (2/3/24).
Freshman guard/forward Tate McCubbin also joins Gipson and Rives on the Austin Peay Coaches Show.
McCubbin currently is on the best stretch of his young career, as the Columbia, Missouri native is averaging 13.2 points per game in his last five outings, with a career-high 20 points and eight rebounds in APSU's nonconference finale against Brescia, Dec. 29. Through his last five games, McCubbin is shooting 24-for-49 (49.0%) from the field and 13-for-28 (46.4%) from three-point range.
Following Thursday's game against the Wolves, Austin Peay hosts Queens for a 4 p.m., Saturday contest at F&M Bank Arena.Â
After also splitting their first two games of conference play, head coach Brittany Young and the women's basketball team are on the road for three-straight games, beginning with a 6 p.m. Wednesday contest at North Alabama before turning its attention to a 1 p.m., Saturday contest at Bellarmine in Louisville, Kentucky.
Presented weekly for the remainder of basketball season, the Austin Peay Coaches Show features head basketball coaches Corey Gipson and Brittany Young and various assistant coaches and student-athletes. Fans can join Gipson, Young, and Rives every Tuesday at Buffalo Wild Wings, which returns for its sixth season as the host location of the Austin Peay Coaches Show.Â
