Four Reach Double Figures in Back-and-Forth Loss at Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – Four Governors scored in double figures; however, Austin Peay State University's basketball team dropped an 84-75 decision to Tulsa in a game that featured 16 lead changes and 10 ties, Friday, at the Reynolds Center.

Collin Parker led Austin Peay (3-3) in scoring for the third-straight game with 14 points, while Tate McCubbin scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Rashaud Marshall and Zyree Collins were third on the team with 11 points apiece.

In addition to its 16 lead changes, Friday's contest saw both teams compile multiple scoring runs of at least eight consecutive points, with both sides also going on double-digit scoring runs in the second half alone.

The first five baskets of the game all resulted in turns of momentum, with an Anton Brookshire three-pointer answering a Tulsa (4-1) jumper to begin the contest. Five-straight points for the Governors – courtesy of a Collins layup and Matt Enright triple – gave APSU a 15-12 lead seven minutes into the game, but the Golden Hurricane responded with a six-straight points to retake the lead.

Four-straight TU misses helped APSU build a 23-18 lead with nine minutes to play in the period and scores by McCubbin and Brookshire extended the lead to 28-20 30 35 seconds later.

Each of Tulsa's next three baskets came from beyond the arc, with a pair of free throws following the triples giving the Golden Hurricane a three-point lead with 6:08 to play in the opening half.

After exchanging the game's next four points, Parker's second basket of the evening sparked a 10-0 APSU scoring run to end the period, as the Govs held the Golden Hurricane without a make from the field for the final six minutes of the period to lead 40-33 through 20 minutes.

Austin Peay scored 15 points off eight Tulsa turnovers in the opening period, while also outscoring the Golden Hurricane 20-10 in the paint.

The Governors extended their lead to 11 on three different occasions in the first six minutes of the second half; however, the final instance of APSU's double-digit advantage was answered by three-straight TU makes from distance. The trio of triples by Tulsa was answered by the team making five of its next six field goal attempts to take a 61-59 lead with 9:23 to play.

Twelve of the next 14 scores between 9:23 and 3:20 resulted in either a lead change or a stalemate  between the two sides, with a Parker jumper in the paint tying the game at 72. Tulsa then scored 12-straight points to take its largest lead of the night, with Enright making a three-pointer with 30 seconds to play, which proved to be the final points of the night.
