Governors Fall to Golden Eagles in Late-Inning Rally

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University's baseball team fell to Tennessee Tech in midweek action as the Golden Eagles rallied for a two-run eighth to win 7-5, Tuesday, at Bush Stadium in Cookeville, Tennessee.

How it Happened

Tennessee Tech broke open the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, as they scored a pair of runs on two extra-base hits. Jorsixt Jiminez brought in the first run of the game on his triple to left field, before he came in to score on a groundout to the middle infield.

The Governors answered back with a run in the top of the second, as graduate Andres Matias scored from second on a throwing error, cutting the lead in half. But, not before Tennessee Tech responded with another two-run inning in the bottom of the frame on a wild pitch and an RBI double to left.

Austin Peay got back within one run in the top of the third, as the Governors were able to get two runners aboard in scoring position with one out in the inning. Junior Ty Wisdom came up and delivered with an RBI single through the left side of the infield, before Matias came up and scored redshirt junior Ray Velazquez from third on a groundout to the second baseman.

Then, in the top of the fourth inning with one out, Velazquez drove in a pair of runs with a single to left, which gave the Govs their only lead of the game.

The Golden Eagles would tie things up in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out RBI single, before going on to rally for two runs on three hits in the eighth to win the game.

Up Next

The Governors return home for the first time since the conclusion against Lipscomb on March 22, as they welcome North Alabama for an Atlantic Sun Conference series, starting at 6 p.m., Friday, at Joe Maynard Field at Raymond C. Hand Park in Clarksville, Tennessee.
