CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.
? Austin Peay
State University
suffered through another sloppy day at the ballpark, dropping a 10-5 decision
to Milwaukee, Saturday afternoon, at Raymond C. Hand Park.
Milwaukee (3-10) picked up its second
consecutive victory despite only one of its 12 hits going for extra bases. The
Panthers scored two in the first, two in the fourth and five in the seventh ?
all on singles ? and tacked on a run in the eighth courtesy an APSU error.
UWM's cause was helped by three APSU errors, a fourth-inning miscue leading to
the two runs.
Austin Peay's (7-7) offense was stymied throughout the day,
scoring lone runs in the first and fifth innings. Head coach Gary McClure made
wholesale changes in the ninth and the substitutes responded with three runs on
three hits to offer a silver lining to the day.
Govs starter Stephen Huff (1-2) was tagged for the loss
despite allowing only four runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out
seven over six innings. Centerfielder Rafael Hill went 4-for-4 on the day and
leftfielder Josh Kemph was 2-for-3 as the Govs rapped out 10 hits.
UWM reliever Brad Lusti (1-1) picked up the victory in
relief after allowing one run on four hits while striking out seven in six
innings. Starter Jordan Herbert tossed the first two innings, allowing one run.
Reliever Ben McClarey had to come on with two on and no out in the ninth to
stop the Govs late rally, recording the final three outs. First baseman Andy
Hetebrueg and left fielder Nick Wichser each had two hits and two RBI.
Designated hitter Josh Sarcia and catcher Shaun Wegner each had one hit and two
RBI.
Austin Peay and Milwaukee
close out their three-game series with a noon, Sunday, contest at Hand Park.
