Marshall gets help, Govs down Iowa on the diamond

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Starter Ricky Marshall pitched well and Austin Peay won 10-4 over Iowa at Raymond C. Hand Park, Saturday. The Govs and Hawkeyes play game three, Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Govs gave Marshall an early cushion, plating four runs in the first and one in the second to take a 5-1 lead into the fourth. Both teams scored three runs in each half of the fourth and the Govs took advantage of back-to-back doubles for two more runs in the seventh.

Brooks Hunton kept the hot bat going 3-for-5 with four RBI, including a pair of two-out RBI. Matt Kole hit his third home run of the series in going 2-for-4 and also contributed a pair of two-out RBI. Trey Lucas went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Adam Browett and Jared DeLong each had two hits for the Govs.

Marshall went 5.2 innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on seven hits, while striking out three and walking four. The Govs bullpen pitched 3.1 scoreless innings to close it out, with Stephen Huff going 3.0 innings with six strikeouts and Daniel Tenholder coming in to record the game's final out.
