CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? With its season's first three-game win streak in hand, Austin Peay State University's baseball team will host Lipscomb in a 6 p.m., Tuesday contest before traveling to Evansville for a 6 p.m., Wednesday affair.
The Govs (13-17) swept a three-game series from SIU Edwardsville this past weekend for their season's first three-game win streak. However, Austin Peay has lost six straight midweek outings, dating back to a 12-4 victory against Indiana State, March 4.
Austin Peay's offense has shown signs of awakening in its last five games, batting an impressive .367 and averaging 9.6 runs per game. Prior to those five contests, the Govs were batting .265 and averaging 5.8 runs per contest. Shortstop Jon Clinard has 10 hits (.500 batting average) and nine stolen bases in the last five games. Left fielder Adam Browett also has 10 hits (.455 batting average) during those same five games and has bumped his season's batting average to .358.
On the mound, the Govs will send left-handed pitcher Jeremy Dobbs to the mound against Lipscomb, Tuesday. He is 0-2 with a 7.71 ERA this season with 12 strikeouts in 14.0 innings. Austin Peay will determine Wednesday's starter at game time.
Lipscomb (13-17) has lost its last seven outings, including a three-game Atlantic Sun Conference series at Kennesaw State. Senior first baseman Justin Sanders leads the Bisons with a .365 batting average, five home runs and 25 RBI.
Evansville (11-16) enters the midweek after dropping two of three to Creighton in Missouri Valley Conference action this past weekend. The Purple Aces won the season's earlier meeting between the two teams, 8-7, March 25. Evansville led 8-1 going into the ninth before APSU scored six runs in the ninth. Sophomore infielder Cody Fick leads Evansville with a .362 batting average, six home runs and 23 RBI.
