Box Score CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay's baseball team scored 10 runs in
the first four innings en route to a 10-4 Ohio Valley Conference victory
against Tennessee Tech, Sunday, at Raymond C. Hand Park. The Govs swept the
three-game OVC series - their second sweep in as many weeks.
Austin Peay (25-19, 13-4 OVC) surrendered an unearned run in
the first but recovered with three runs in its half of the inning. Third
baseman Greg Bachman blasted a two-out, solo home run to right to tie the game.
Two batters later shortstop Reed Harper extended his hitting streak to 22 games
with a two-run home run to left field.
The Govs added three runs in the second and two more in both
the third and fourth innings, building a 10-2 advantage and would not look
back.
Tennessee Tech (19-25, 8-10) had plenty of opportunities to
score, but stranded 15 base runners in the contest. The Golden Eagles stranded
a man in scoring position six times.
Starter Zach Toney (4-2) picked up the win as he held
Tennessee Tech to two runs on seven hits over six innings. He struck out seven
of the 29 batters he faced and walked four.
Bachman, who added a two-run double in the third, led the
Govs with a 2-for-4, three RBI outing.
Harper, first baseman John Hogan, left fielder Tyler Childress and second
baseman Jordan Hankins each had two hits.
Tennessee Tech starter Jake McWhirter (0-4) suffered the
loss after allowing six runs on six hits in 1.2 innings. Catcher Ben Burgess
had three doubles as part of a 3-for-5, one RBI outing.
Austin Peay returns to action with a 7 p.m., Wednesday
contest at Lipscomb.
