Austin Peay (12-10, 6-4 OVC) defeated rival Tennessee Tech 9-3 in Game 1 of a key Ohio Valley Conference series on Friday.
The Governors struck for five runs in the first inning, giving starting pitcher Alex Robles more than enough insurance to earn his first victory of the season.
The sophomore right-hander had a no-hitter going up until the sixth inning, retiring 12 straight batters, until a double by Dylan Bosheers ended it.
Logan Gray paced the APSU offense with a 3-for-3 day which included a solo home run in the sixth, his third homer in five games. He also had three RBIs and three runs scored on Friday.
THE LINEUP
Chase Hamilton… Hamilton was 0-for-5 with five strikeouts on the day.
Cayce Bredlau… Bredlau quietly went 3-for-5 on Friday, having a pair of singles and a double in his first three plate appearances.
Logan Gray… The sophomore reached base in all five plate appearances, improving his batting average to a team-high .346.
Ridge Smith… Smith was 1-for-3 in the cleanup spot with a single in the eighth inning.
Garrett Copeland… Copeland went 1-for-4 with a run scored against TTU.
Josh Wilson… The right fielder was 0-for-3, but did have two RBIs and two runs scored.
Alex Robles… Also serving as the designated hitter, Robles went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Dre Gleason… Gleason was 1-for-4 with a RBI sacrifice fly in the first.
Imani Willis… The shortstop went 2-for-4 with a RBI single against the Golden Eagles.
Clayton Smithson… Smithson entered as a pinch runner for Robles in the eighth inning.
ON THE MOUND
Austin Peay pitchers surrendered just three runs on four hits, with just two runs being earned as the Govs committed three errors.
Robles struck out seven batters en route to his first victory of the season, and was followed by Levi Primasing. The left-hander went 1.2 innings in relief, allowing just one hit with three strikeouts.
