Post-Game Notes: APSU Baseball vs. Belmont Game 2

TEAM NOTES

Player of the Game: Logan Gray (3-for-5, HR, RBI, 3 R)

Austin Peay (18-13, 10-7 OVC) dropped Game 2 of the series against Belmont, 12-8, to even it at 1-1 heading into Sunday.

Sophomore Logan Gray led the APSU offense with three hits on the day, including a solo home run in the seventh inning.

Zach Hall went 2.1 innings as the starter, giving up four runs. He was replaced by Zach Walton, who took the loss after giving up the game-winning run in the third.

As a team, the Govs committed five errors which led to Belmont putting 12 runs on the board.

THE LINEUP

Ridge Smith… Smith went 1-for-2 from the leadoff spot with a walk.

Cayce Bredlau… Bredlau was 0-for-2 with a pair of walks.

Garrett Copeland… Copeland doubled in the eighth to drive in two runs, and also scored once.

Logan Gray… The sophomore increased his average to .356 on the year and hit his ninth homer.

Josh Wilson… The right fielder extended his reached base streak to 16 games with a single in the second.

Alex Robles… Robles went 2-for-4 as the DH with two singles and a RBI.

Dre Gleason… Gleason was 1-for-4 with a fifth-inning single.

Chase Hamilton… Hamilton started in center field, going 0-for-3 with a run scored.

Imani Willis… The shortstop singled in the second frame for his lone hit and brought home Hamilton.

T.J. Marik… Marik replaced Smith at catcher, going 0-for-3 with a run scored at the plate.

Wesley Purcell… Purcell entered as a pinch-hitter and doubled down the right field line for a RBI.

Kyle Blackburn… Blackburn grabbed a bat in the eighth, and was hit by a pitch. He later came around to score.

Clayton Smithson… Smithson pinch-hit in the ninth and singled to right center.

Caleb Mitchell… Mitchell was summoned to play second base for the first time this season, and went 0-for-2.

Patrick Massoni… Massoni went 0-for-1 in his only plate appearance.

ON THE MOUND

Lefty Zach Hall exited after 2.1 innings after allowing four runs on five with a walk and two strikeouts. His final pitch total was 45 as he did not factor into the decision.

Zach Walton fell to 0-1 on the season after allowing a run to come across in the third. Levi Primasing followed out of the bullpen, going 2.1 innings with five runs (four earned) coming across with the help of three walks.

After Shane Lantigua did not record an out in the sixth, the ball was given to Michael Costanzo, who got out of a bases loaded jam with a strikeout.

Zach Neff pitched 2.2 innings with two runs scored against him with three walks on his line. Keirce Kimbel recorded the final out in the ninth with a strikeout.
