Player of the Game: Alex Robles (3-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI)
Austin Peay (22-21) fell to Western Kentucky, 10-6, on Wednesday in a midweek contest at Raymond C. Hand Park.
The Governors recorded 15 hits, but only managed six runs over nine innings. On the other hand, WKU scored 10 runs on seven hits.
Sophomore Alex Robles led the Govs with a 3-for-4 outing, driving in two runs. Garrett Copeland also went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
THE LINEUP
Patrick Massoni… Massoni went 0-for-4 out of the leadoff spot, reaching base once and scored a run.
Cayce Bredlau… Bredlau's lone hit came in the eighth with a double down the right field line, scoring a pair of Govs.
Garrett Copeland… Copeland was 3-for-4 on the day, improving his average to .351 on the year.
Josh Wilson… Wilson went 2-for-5 on Wednesday, a pair of single.
Alex Robles… The designated hitter was 3-for-4 with two runs driven in, and is now batting .333 this season.
Wesley Purcell… Getting the start in right field, the junior went 1-for-4 with a run scored on the evening.
Ridge Smith… Starting at third base, Smith recorded two singles and scored once in the contest.
T.J. Marik… Starting at catcher, Marik singled and scored, reaching base three times.
Imani Willis… The freshman was 2-for-4 with two RBI following a single in the second inning.
Clayton Smithson… Smithson pinch-hit for Marik in the 9th, striking out to go 0-for-1.
ON THE MOUND
Austin Peay pitchers combined to allow 10 runs on seven hits in the contest, while the defense committed two errors in the game.
As a team, APSU walked nine batters. In the eighth inning, the Govs walked four batters, hit two batters, three passed balls, and one wild pitch.
Michael Costanzo took the loss for the home team, with the Hilltoppers scoring four runs (two earned) on three hits. It drops his record to 0-3 on the season.
Right-hander Zach Walton would be next in line, also going three innings with a two-run home run in the seventh ending his night. He was replaced by Jake Corum, who was one of two Govs to pitch a clean inning. The other was Keirce Kimbel, with the freshman tossing 1 1/3 innings with three strikeouts.
In between the two, Shane Lantigua and Hunter Lindley combined to allow four runs, though none were earned.
