First-place Govs volleyball hosts two weekend matches

CLARKSVILLE – Austin Peay will look to stay atop the OVC standings when it closes out its four-match homestand with contests Friday and Saturday. The Govs first host Eastern Illinois in a 7 p.m., Friday contest before third-place SIUE visits for a 1 p.m., Saturday match.

FROM THE SERVE

  • The Govs are one of two teams remaining unbeaten in OVC play after the first two weeks of league play. Tennessee State, who the Govs will face Oct. 13, is the other unbeaten OVC team.
  • Austin Peay leads all OVC teams in kills per set (14.59), attack percentage (.249), assists (13.71) and overall win percentage (.875) entering Week 7.
  • The NCAA first Volleyball RPI was presented, Monday, and the Govs were ranked No. 48. It is the highest RPI ranking for an OVC team since the current RPI was established in 2006.
  • Senior setter Kristen Stucker earned her fourth OVC Setter of the Week award, Monday. She paced the Govs to an impressive .268 team attack percentage last week while averaging 12.29 assists per set.
  • Sophomore outside hitter Brooke Moore led the Govs offense last week with 30 kills (4.29/set) while hitting .262. She posted 16 kills in the Govs three-set win against Morehead State, including seven kills in the first set.
  • Senior outside hitter Cecily Gable added 25 kills (3.57/set) in Austin Peay's two victories last week, posting a .232 attack percentage. She led the Govs with 15 kills and a .314 attack percentage against Murray State.
  • Junior libero Ginny Gerig did not have much work to do last week but led the Govs with 34 digs (4.86/set). She enjoyed an unblemished outing against Murray State with 19 digs and 33 serve receptions without an error.
  • Head coach Taylor Mott became the first APSU head coach since 1992 to earn OVC Coach of the Year honors in 2017. She notched her 400th career win and became the second head coach to record 100 wins at APSU during the 2017 season.
