Postgame Notes: Govs vs. #20 Redhawks

FROM THE TOP

  • In downing No. 20 Southeast Missouri, Austin Peay has defeated two ranked opponents in the same season for the first time in program history.
  • This is the Govs first 4-2 start to a season since 2007, when they finished 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the OVC.

SERIES UPDATE                                            

  • Austin Peay defeated Southeast Missouri for the eighth time. The Redhawks lead the all-time series, 16-8.
  • The Governors won their second straight home game against the Redhawks, improving to 4-9 in Clarksville.

OFFENSIVE SPARKS

  • JaVaughn Craig finished with 1,235-career rushing yards thanks to a 38-yard rushing day, extending his own APSU career record for rushing yards by a quarterback.
  • Craig threw a multi-TD game for the second time this season. It was the third multi-TD passing performance by a Governor in 2019.
  • Craig also became the 20th Govs quarterback to pass for 1,000 yards in a season, finishing the day with 1,118 yards – 18th most in a single-season and two yards behind Jake Ryan (2010).
  • Baniko Harley caught five passes for 102 yards, his first career 100-yard receiving performance.
  • Ahmaad Tanner ran for two scores and caught another touchdown. It was his first multi-TD rushing performance and his first TD reception of 2019.

DEFENSIVE STANDS                                         

  • Austin Peay recorded an interception for the fourth consecutive game. It is the Govs third multi-INT game this season (improving to 3-0 in those games)
  • Kordell Jackson, who entered the game ranked No. 2 in the FCS in interceptions per game, grabbed his fifth interception of 2019. He is now 11th on the Govs single-season interceptions list.
  • Jackson moves past Teddy Carruthers for fifth on the Govs' career interception return yards list with 166 yards.
  • Jack McDonald finished with 10 tackles, the third double-digit tackle total by a Govs defender this season.
  • Shaun Wittinghill's 1.5 sacks were the most by a Governors defender this season, He finished with seven tackles.

THIRD DOWN TAKEDOWNS

  • Austin Peay did not allow a Southeast Missouri third-down conversion on the Redhawks first eight attempts. Southeast Missouri was 2-for-12 on third down in the contest.
  • The Govs have allowed a third-down conversion 22-of-66 (33.3 percent).
  • Southeast Missouri did not convert from third-and-long (more than six yards), going 0-for-5.
  • Austin Peay has held opponents to 9-for-51 (17.6 percent) on third-and-long situations in 2019.

SPECIAL TEAMS SPRINTS

  • Josh Alexander's 107 kick return yards were the most by a Governors kick returner this season. Austin Peay entered the game with 261 kick return yards this season.
  • Devin Stuart punted a season-high eight times, putting a season-best four down inside the 20-yard line. He still has not put a punt into the end zone in 2019.
