Postgame Notes: Govs at Tennessee State

FROM THE TOP

  • The Governors start the season 4-3 overall, 2-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play, for the second time in the past three seasons.

CAPTAINS/COIN TOSS

SERIES UPDATE

  • Tennessee State defeated Austin Peay for the 14th time. The Tigers lead the all-time series, 14-8.
  • The Tennessee State win snapped a two game Austin Peay winning streak in the series, dropping the Governors to 2-9 all-time against Tennessee State in Nashville.

OFFENSE SPARKS

  • JaVaughn Craig finished with 1,279 career rushing yards thanks to a 44-yard rushing day, extending his own APSU career record for rushing yards by a quarterback.
  • It was Craig's sixth straight game with 30-plus rushing yards.
  • Craig threw for 291 passing yards, giving him 1,409 passing yards on the season – 13th most in a single-season and 69 yards behind Jake Ryan (2011)
  • Baniko Harley caught six passes for 109 yards, his second career 100-yard receiving performance in as many weeks.

DEFENSE STANDS

  • The Governors defense held the Tennessee State offense to a season-low 336 yards of total offense.
  • Pat Walker's 11 tackles made him the third Gov to post double-digit tackles this season – it was the fourth straight game an Austin Peay defender has recorded 10-plus tackles.
  • For the first time since Sep. 14 against Mercer, the Governors did not intercept a pass – it was only the second time this season that the Govs have not forced a turnover.

SPECIAL TEAMS SPRINTS

  • Devin Stuart downed his 10th punt of the season inside the 20-yard line, that gives him back-to-back seasons of double-digit punts inside the 20. He still has not booted a ball into the end zone in 2019.
  • The Governors converted on their second fake punt of the season, when Corey Simmons took a direct snap 6-yards for the first down.
