Govs geared up to take on WKU, Saturday

CLARKSVILLE – A match that was originally scheduled to be played on the road will now be played in Clarksville, as Austin Peay State University women's tennis will welcome Western Kentucky to the Governors Tennis Center for a 1 p.m., Saturday match.

After picking up a pair of wins on the road in Arkansas last weekend, the Governors will be back at home for a single match before heading to Ohio for a pair of matches next weekend.

German natives Fabienne Schmidt and Jana Leder are off to a perfect start to their seasons, with each going 3-0 in singles play through the first two week of the season.

Governor sophomores Danielle Morris and Danielle Morris are both off to 2-1 starts this season in singles action. Paladini-Jennings enters Saturday's match against Western Kentucky on a two-match winning streak, after winning both of her matches last weekend.

Ana Albertson, Aleks Topalovic, and Sarah Heckel have all picked up a one singles win through the first three matches of the season.

In doubles play, Morris and Leder have been paired together as the Governors No. 1 duo in all three matches, they have played to a 1-2 record this season, but picked up a win in their last match. Schmidt and Topalovic have been the Govs best doubles pair so far this season, as the duo has gone 2-1 in the first two weeks of the season while playing as the No. 2 pairing.

Thee Governors No. 3 doubles pairing has been Heckel playing with a combination of Albertson and Paladini-Jennings. Heckel has won twice in doubles play this seaosn, pciking up one win with each of her doubles partners.

Last Meeting: Austin Peay swept Western Kentucky, 7-0, in last season's opener on Jan. 26, 2019 at the Governors tennis Center.

The Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky started their season 3-0, after picking up a big 4-3 win over Butler in the season opener. But the Hilltoppers winning streak was snapped, and they have lost back-to-back matches to Northern Kentucky, 6-1, and Ball State, 5-2.

The Governors will travel to the Dayton, Ohio, for a pair of matches; first  a 7 p.m., Feb. 7, match at Dayton and then a 2:30 p.m., Feb. 8, match at Wright State.
