Clarksville, Tenn. – Sophomore Almantas Ozelis, of the Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Ozelis was named adidas®/Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after leading the Govs to an upset of Eastern Kentucky, which will be seeded second in this week’s OVC Men’s Tennis Tournament Championship. Ozelis and Aleh Drobysh teamed up for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, helping the Govs secure the doubles point, before rallying for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory in No. 1 singles against Ramon van Flymen.

The Lithuanian’s efforts helped Austin Peay qualify as the No. 5 seed for this week’s OVC Tennis Championships.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Sophomore Taylor Goodley, of the women’s golf team, led the Govs to a tie for fourth at the 2017 OVC Women’s Golf Championships with a ninth-place 223 (79-71-73) individual finish, leading or tying for the team lead in par-3 scoring (3.25 strokes per hole), par-4 scoring (4.17/hole), par-5 scoring (4.92/hole) and birdies (eight).
  • Senior jumper Kaylnn Pitts, of the track and field team, picked up wins in the triple jump (12.70m; 41-8.00) and long jump (personal-best 6.08m; 19-11.50) at the APSU Invitational, more than likely punching her ticket for the 2017 NCAA East Preliminary in both events in the process.
  • Freshman outfielder Malcolm Tipler, of the baseball team, hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the Governors series finale at Eastern Kentucky, part of a 2-for-5, six-RBI performance, and followed that up in the midweek against Western Kentucky by going 2-for-4 with an RBI single.
