Clarksville, Tenn. – Sophomore running back Kentel Williams, of the Austin Peay State University football team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
Williams needed just nine touches to account for 167 yards of total offense in Austin Peay’s 38-31 Homecoming win against Southeast Missouri, Saturday. The Knoxville native rushed eight times for 148 yards and caught a pass for 19 more, averaging 18.7 yards each time he brought the ball into his possession.
Twice, Williams broke off big runs to aid Austin Peay’s attack. With under a minute to go in the first quarter, he found a hole and scampered 74 yards to give the Govs a lead they would not relinquish, and helped Austin Peay pad that advantage late in the second quarter with another 56-yard burst to set up Ahmaad Tanner’s touchdown plunge from a yard out.
Sunday, Williams was named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, his first weekly honor of the 2017 season and second in his Austin Peay career. The accolades continued to pour in on Tuesday, with Williams taking Tennessee Sports Writers Association Offensive Player of the Week honors.
The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.
