Austin Peay State University Athletics

Clarksville, Tenn. – Senior forward Averyl Ugba, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Ugba led the Govs to a 2-0 mark in Ohio Valley Conference play for the first time since 2013-14 with back-to-back double-doubles against SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois, securing his third adidas® OVC Newcomer of the Week honor and first OVC Player of the Week and Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week honors in the process.

The Silver Spring, Maryland native opened his week with a career-high 21 points and 10 rebounds against SIU Edwardsville, scoring 13 of his 15 first-half points during a game-changing 28-9 run for the Govs. He followed that with a team-high 17 points and career-best 11 rebounds against Eastern Illinois.  

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

• Freshman guard Brianah Ferby, of the women’s basketball team, scored a career-high 19 points in just her second start to lead Austin Peay to its season’s first OVC win against Eastern Illinois.
• Freshman forward Terry Taylor, of the men’s basketball team, averaged 15.5 points and 11.0 rebounds against SIUE and Eastern Illinois, tallying double-doubles in both contests. Against the Cougars, he scored 14 of his 19 points during the first half and added 11 boards, including seven on the offensive glass.
