Clarksville, Tenn. – Sophomore sprinter Tymeitha Tolbert, of the Austin Peay State University track and field team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Tolbert can now boast as having two of the top three fastest 60m dash times in Austin Peay track and field history after an unforgettable weekend to close out the 2017-18 indoor season at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships in Charleston. During qualifying for the event, she equaled sophomore Diamond Battle’s 7.57 mark from the previous season as she qualified fourth.

She dropped the time two-hundredths of a second to stand alone as the top 60m runner in Austin Peay history during her bronze medal-earning 7.55 run in Saturday’s final. Tolbert's bronze marks the fourth time in five seasons that Austin Peay has placed a student-athlete on the medal stand of the 55/60m events during the indoor championships; she takes a place on that list alongside longtime standouts Kymmalett Ross (gold, 2016) and Erika Adams (bronze, 2015; silver, 2014).

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Freshman forward Terry Taylor, of the men’s basketball team, capped his first regular season as a Gov with a 24-point performance in Austin Peay’s marathon home finale against Murray State, hitting a career-high five three-pointers in the contest and moving into third all-time in single-season scoring by a freshman with 457 points.
  • Senior pitcher Michael Costanzo, of the baseball team, tossed five innings of five-hit, two-run ball against Toledo, striking out eight for his first victory of the campaign.
  • Junior Lidia Yanes Garcia, of the women’s tennis team, dominated last week, winning singles matches against Louisville’s Alexsandra Mally (7-5, 6-1) and IUPUI’s Valeriia Lavrenchuk (6-2, 6-0) while running her record at No. 1 doubles alongside Fabienne Schmidt to 5-1 on the campaign. She was named adidas® OVC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for her efforts.
  • Junior infielder Danielle Liermann, of the softball team, hit .429 and drove in the first run in three of Austin Peay’s four contests last week, which saw the Govs go 2-2 at the Central Arkansas Invitational. She homered twice—against South Dakota State in the tournament opener and during her 3-for-4, five-RBI performance against Arkansas-Pine Bluff—while also going 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI against Louisiana Monroe.
