Austin Peay State University Athletics

Clarksville, Tenn. – Senior Wesley Gray, of the Austin Peay State University men’s cross-country team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Gray bested the field at the 2018 APSU Cross Country Festival with a 19:16.99 pace in the four-mile run, winning the event by several lengths as an individual to help Austin Peay secure its first team triumph of the 2018 season.

Tuesday, the Peoria, Arizona native was named Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, the first Gov to earn a conference award since Enock Langat in 2010.   

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

• Junior Maisie Lay, of the women’s cross country team, led the way for the women’s team at the APSU Cross Country Festival with a fourth-place, 18:58.17 run in the five-kilometer event.
• Junior defensive end Jaison Williams, of the football team, tied a season-high with seven tackles and chipped in 2.0 tackles for loss at UT Martin.  
• Junior libero Ginny Gerig, of the volleyball team, was named OVC Defensive Player of the Week after posting 20-dig efforts at Southeast Missouri (season-high 23) and UT Martin (20).
• Junior Meghann Stamps, of the women’s golf team, claimed an eighth-place finish—her third top-10 in her last four events—at the Chris Banister Classic in Glencoe, Alabama, shooting 230 (73-75-82) and leading the Govs in birdies (six), pars (31), par-5 scoring (5.08/hole) and par-4 scoring (4.30/hole).
