Clarksville, Tenn. – Sophomore sprinter Breigh Jones, of the Austin Peay State University track and field team, has been named this week’s Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
Jones brought home a pair of silver medals from last weekend’s Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships. She was runner-up in the 400m dash by way of a school indoor-record 55.27 mark, less than three-tenths behind Tennessee State’s Ashontae Jackson. She now owns both the indoor and outdoor records in the 400m in less than two years of competition.
She joined fellow sophomore Kymmalett Ross, freshman Terri Morris and junior Maikea Davis in championship’s final event, earning silver in the 4x400m relay with a 3:48.20 mark.
For the weekend, Jones contributed 16 of the Lady Govs 93.50 points, helping the Lady Govs to a third-place team finish, the best of head coach Doug Molnar’s tenure.
The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:
  • Junior Ornella Di Salvo, of the women’s tennis team, won her fourth and fifth straight matches at No. 2 singles, defeating Evansville’s Natasha James (6-3, 7-5) and Lindsey Wilson’s Alicia Rodriguez (6-1, 6-2).
  • Senior guard Travis Betran, of the men’s basketball team, concluded his Austin Peay career with a career-high 32 points – including the 1,000th of his career – against UT Martin. He is now Austin Peay’s single-season (87.7 percent) and career (86.1 percent) free-throw percentage leader.
  • Senior catcher P.J. Torres, of the baseball team, homered twice and hit .375 for Austin Peay, which went 3-1 against Eastern Michigan, Dayton and Bradley last week.
  • Senior pitcher/utility player Lauren de Castro, of the softball team, tossed a five-hit shutout against Trevecca, striking out a season-high eight batters. She also scored the game-winning run in Game One of the doubleheader against the Trojans after leading off the seventh inning with a double.
