CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Senior guard Tiasha Gray, of the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
Gray earned multiple weekly awards after her performance last week after she led Austin Peay to wins against Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech to remain unbeaten in conference play. She averaged 24.0 points, 6.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals for the week.
The Clarksville native notched her ninth career 30-point outing with a 32-point effort against Tennessee Tech—she also added seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals against the Golden Eagles. She opened the week with 16 points against Eastern Kentucky, but it was her blocked shot at the buzzer that allowed Austin Peay to preserve a 61-59 victory.
Monday, Gray earned adidas®/Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honors, and was accorded the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Player of the Week award, Tuesday.
The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.
Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:
- Freshman Savannah Amato, of the track and field team, won the pole vault at Sunday’s Ed Temple Invitational with a 3.64m (11-11.25) mark that ranks first in the OVC and 73rd nationally entering this weekend’s Niswonger Invitational.
- Senior center Chris Horton, of the men’s basketball team, averaged 22.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.5 steals for the Govs last week, hitting 63.0 percent (17-of-27) shots from the floor and leading Austin Peay to its season’s first OVC win, Thursday, against Jacksonville State.
