Clarksville, Tenn. – Sophomore pitcher Michael Costanzo, of the Austin Peay State University baseball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Costanzo was named the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week, Monday, after carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning of Saturday’s contest against Bradley. The Chicago native was masterful in his third career start, scattering two runs, a hit and a walk to go along with eight strikeouts.

In his first career weekend start, Costanzo retired 16 batters in a row after opening the second inning by hitting a batter. He earned his third career win in an Austin Peay uniform—his first as a starter.

Costanzo shared the weekly honor with Southeast Missouri’s Clay Chandler, becoming the first Governor to earn OVC Pitcher of the Week accolades since Alex Robles, April 21, 2014.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Freshman pole vaulter Dascha Hix, of the track and field team, was runner-up in the event after losing a jump-off to Cincinnati’s Brooke Catherine after posting a personal-best 3.67m (12-0.50) mark.
  • Junior outfielder Chandler Groves, of the softball team, hit .455 (5-for-11) with three runs scored and an RBI for the Governors at the Hilltopper Classic.
  • Junior first baseman Dre Gleason, of the baseball team, hit .600 (9-for-15) with six extra-base hits (a triple, two home runs and three doubles) to go along with 10 RBI to help the Governors get off to a 3-1 start to the 2016 campaign against Bradley and Southern Illinois.
  • Senior guard Tiasha Gray, of the women’s basketball team, helped the Governors into the OVC Tournament field with a 30-point, 6-assist effort in her penultimate home contest against Murray State, Saturday.
