CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? A year ago, Austin Peay lost just two home games in going 13-2 in the Dunn Center.
The second loss came against Morehead State, a defeat APSU avenged, 67-63, Thursday night. It was Dave Loos' 275th win at APSU. Now, the Governors will attempt to avenge the 2006-07 season's first home defeat.
APSU will travel to Evansville to face the Purple Aces, who came to Clarksville a year ago to collect an 80-75 decision.
Evansville is under new leadership as a former Aces star, Marty Simmons, has taken over for Steve Merfield. Simmons was 1-1 as a player facing the Govs back in 1986-87 and 1987-88.
Simmons came to Evansville from Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, where he went 88-59 in five seasons at the Division II program, including a pair of 20-win seasons.
Evansville is coming off an impressive 53-32 win against Princeton, Wednesday night. It was the fewest points allowed by an Aces team in the shot clock era. In fact, it was fewest points permitted since they defeated Kentucky Wesleyan, 23-19, in 1962-64.
The Governors, meanwhile, are off to a 2-0 Ohio Valley Conference start after defeating Morehead State, 67-63, Thursday night. Fernandez Lockett scored the go-ahead bucket with 17 seconds left after rebounding a missed shot. Drake Reed and Wes Channels then each hit free throws in the closing seconds to put the game out of reach.
