JACKSON, Tenn.
? Breaking out the bats for a season-high 15 hits, Austin
Peay State
University's baseball team posted a
4-2 victory against Memphis, Tuesday night, at Pringles Park.
Austin Peay (10-9) scored in each of the first four innings.
In the first, the Govs capitalized on centerfielder Rafael Hill's leadoff
single with third baseman Tyler Farrar's sacrifice fly. In the second, leadoff
hitter Will Hogue's single was the first of three consecutive singles ? the
last by catcher Trey Lucas scoring Hogue. Farrar struck again in the third with
his season's third home run. The Govs closed out their scoring in the fourth
after designated hitter Keegan McCamment's one-out double was scored by second
baseman J.B. Gilbert's sacrifice fly.
Memphis (11-11) had baserunners in every
inning but only scored twice, once in the first and again in the sixth, both
times utilizing a batter hit by pitch. The Tigers saw an excellent scoring
opportunity pass them by in the fourth as they loaded the bases with two out
and chased APSU starter Jake Brisbin. Reliever Stephen Huff came on and struck
out the lone batter he faced to stop the threat.
Otherwise, the Govs pitching staff kept the Tigers off
balance as the quintet allowed just six hits and struck out six. Brisbin
allowed one run on four hits and three walk over 3.2 innings but did not factor
in the decision. Huff (2-3) picked up the victory after holding the Tigers
scoreless while striking out two in 1.1 innings. Daniel Tenholder came on to
pick up the final three outs for his season's fourth save.
Offensively, Farrar, Lucas and McCamment each had two hits
as the Govs recorded a hit in every inning.
Memphis starter Brach Davis was tagged for
the loss after allowing four runs on 11 hits over 5.1 innings. Tiger
centerfielder K.K. Chalmers was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Tigers only
multi-hit performance.
Austin Peay concludes its five-game road trip with a 6 p.m.,
Wednesday, contest at Western Kentucky.
