Burggraf named ESPN The Magazine first-team Academic All-District

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ?  Austin Peay State University sophomore pole vaulter Carrie Burggraf, who owns a 4.0 grade-point average as a political science major, has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV first team.

That announcement came Thursday. As a result of earning first-team honors, Burggraf's name now will appear on the Academic All-America ballot.

To earn Academic All-American consideration, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore eligibility-wise and own a minimum 3.2 grade-point average. District IV is comprised of Division I schools in Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Alabama.

Burggraf has been a member of the President's List (4.0 GPA) and the Athletics Director's Honor Roll (3.0 GPA) all four semesters at Austin Peay. In addition, she received the Ohio Valley Conference Medal of Honor (highest GPA of conference-sponsored sport) in 2006-07 and was a member of the OVC Commissioner's Honor roll (3.25 GPA for year).

Burggraf has been successful equally on the field. She holds both the Austin Peay and OVC championship records in the outdoor pole vault. She recently competed in the NCAA Mideast Regional in the event.

She was the 2006-07 OVC Indoor Track and Field Newcomer of the Year. Burggraf has been a top four finisher in the OVC indoor and outdoor pole vault championship in each of her first two seasons.
