CLARKSVILLE,
Tenn. ? Austin Peay State
University men's golf team, coming off a second-place finish at the Palmer's
Toyota Fall Intercollegiate, is set to compete in the 2008 Earl Yestingsmeier
Invitational, played on the par-70, 6,438-yard Delaware Country Club, Monday
and Tuesday.
The tournament, hosted by Ball State, consists of 36
holes, Monday, and a final 18 holes, Tuesday. The tournament field consists of
defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Eastern Kentucky, as well as Bowling
Green, Butler, Cincinnati, IP-Fort Wayne, IUPUI, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Vincennes
and Wright State.
“This tournament is going to be a good measuring stick to see
how we stack up, especially against defending OVC champion Eastern Kentucky,”
said head coach Kirk Kayden.
The Governors are coming off a strong second-place finish,
Sept. 15-16, at the Palmer's Toyota Fall Intercollegiate, in Mobile, Ala.,
where junior Erik Barnes finished second and sophomore Brian Balthrop finished
12th.
Barnes and Balthrop will be joined in this tournament by
senior Matt Coles, sophomore Luke Sherrod and freshman Carlos Rodriguez. Junior
Eric Anfinson will be competing as an individual.
“I am encouraged by our start this season, but we still
have a lot to prove early on,” said Kayden. “The guys have worked very hard the
past week and hopefully that will translate into great play on the course.”
