Govs set to tee off at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University men's golf team, coming off a second-place finish at the Palmer's Toyota Fall Intercollegiate, is set to compete in the 2008 Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational, played on the par-70, 6,438-yard Delaware Country Club, Monday and Tuesday.

The tournament, hosted by Ball State, consists of 36 holes, Monday, and a final 18 holes, Tuesday. The tournament field consists of defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Eastern Kentucky, as well as Bowling Green, Butler, Cincinnati, IP-Fort Wayne, IUPUI, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Vincennes and Wright State.

“This tournament is going to be a good measuring stick to see how we stack up, especially against defending OVC champion Eastern Kentucky,” said head coach Kirk Kayden.

The Governors are coming off a strong second-place finish, Sept. 15-16, at the Palmer's Toyota Fall Intercollegiate, in Mobile, Ala., where junior Erik Barnes finished second and sophomore Brian Balthrop finished 12th.

Barnes and Balthrop will be joined in this tournament by senior Matt Coles, sophomore Luke Sherrod and freshman Carlos Rodriguez. Junior Eric Anfinson will be competing as an individual.

“I am encouraged by our start this season, but we still have a lot to prove early on,” said Kayden. “The guys have worked very hard the past week and hopefully that will translate into great play on the course.”
