Governors golf in seventh after first-round play

MUNICE, Ind. ? Austin Peay State University men's golf team is tied for seventh after first-round play at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational, Monday, played on the par-70, 6,438-yard Delaware Country Club.

The Governors shot a first-round 298, 14 shots behind tournament leader Bowling Green State, but only eight shots behind second place and defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Eastern Kentucky.

Leading the way for the Governors are junior Erik Barnes and senior Matt Coles, who are currently both tied for 20th with a three-over-par 73. Rounding out the field for the Govs are freshman Carlos Rodriguez (74, 28th), sophomore Brian Balthrop (78, 53rd), sophomore Luke Sherrod (80, 61st) and junior Eric Anfinson (75, 34th) who is competing as an individual.

Second-round play began at approximately 3 p.m., but results were not available at the time of this release.
