Player of the Game: Ridge Smith (2-for-5, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R)
Austin Peay (14-10, 8-4 OVC) swept the series against Tennessee Tech over the weekend thanks to a 12-10 victory on Sunday.
The Governors struck for two runs in the opening frame with Ridge Smith hitting the first of two home runs in the contest. It's the first time since Jordan Hankins in 2013 in which an APSU player has had a multi-homer day.
Overall, Austin Peay belted five home runs in the game, the first that has happened since 2012 against Murray State.
Caleb Powell earned the win on the mound, improving his record to 4-0, while A.J. Gaura picked up a one out save for his fourth.
THE LINEUP
Patrick Massoni… Massoni went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in the seventh inning.
Cayce Bredlau… On top of making two gold star defensive plays in left field, Bredlau went 2-for-5 at the plate with a solo home run in the first inning.
Logan Gray… Gray was 1-for-4 with a run scored on Sunday.
Ridge Smith… Smith broke out of a slump with a pair of home runs, and also bumped his average back up to .318.
Garrett Copeland… Copeland was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and two runs scored on the day.
Josh Wilson… The right fielder doubled for his lone hit of the day, and also reached base with a hit by pitch.
Alex Robles… Serving as the shortstop for the first time since Feb. 28, 2014, Robles was 0-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.
Dre Gleason… Gleason went 1-for-3 against the Golden Eagles with a RBI and run scored.
Imani Willis… Willis struck out in his only at-bat before being replaced in center field by Hamilton.
Chase Hamilton… The sophomore homered in the fifth inning, his second of the season, with three RBI on the day.
Clayton Smithson… Smithson entered as a pinch hitter, striking out in one plate appearance.
ON THE MOUND
Austin Peay pitchers surrendered 10 runs on 15 hits in the contest, with Tennessee Tech only scoring in three of the nine innings.
Caleb Powell pitched 5.2 innings, allowing seven runs (three earned), on 10 hits. He also walked one batter while striking out six. He was replaced by left-hander Levi Primasing, who recorded one out after Powell to get out of the sixth inning.
Zach Walton appeared next, going for two strong innings in which he allowed one hit with one strikeout. Three different APSU pitchers would pitch in the ninth inning as TTU made a late charge. Zach Neff gave up a solo home run before being replaced by Keirce Kimbel, who gave up two runs on one hit.
With a save opportunity available, A.J. Gaura was summoned to close it with one out, picking up his fourth save of the season.
