Austin Peay (19-13, 11-7 OVC) wins the series, 2-1, following a come from behind victory in Game 3 of the series.
Down by as much as 7-3 in the contest, the Govs rallied to tie the game in the sixth with a RBI single by Josh Wilson. In the eighth, it was Garrett Copeland who recorded the game-winning blast with a solo home run to left field.
John Sparks earned the win in relief, pitching four innings of two hit ball with no runs coming across. The freshman improves his record to 3-0 on the season.
THE LINEUP
Patrick Massoni… Massoni went 0-for-3 at the plate with a walk and two runs scored.
Cayce Bredlau… Bredlau homered in his first at-bat, then doubled in the sixth to go 2-for-4 with three RBI and three runs.
Garrett Copeland… Copeland hit the game-winning home run in the eighth, his third in the last four games.
Logan Gray… The sophomore increased his average to .366 on the year and hit his 10th homer to go 3-for-5.
Josh Wilson… The right fielder extended his reached base streak to 17 games with a double and single in the contest.
Alex Robles… Robles went 2-for-4 as the DH with two singles and a walk.
Ridge Smith… Smith went 1-for-5 with a single and run scored on Sunday.
Dre Gleason… Gleason extended his on-base streak to 11 games, going 2-for-3 with a home run in the fourth.
Imani Willis… The shortstop went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts.
Clayton Smithson… Smithson pinch-hit in the eighth and struck out looking.
Chase Hamilton… Hamilton was inserted in center field for the ninth.
T.J. Marik… Marik replaced Smith at catcher in the ninth for defense.
ON THE MOUND
Sophomore Caleb Powell started the game for APSU, going 1.2 innings with five runs allowed on six hits. Jared Carkuff followed behind him, giving up four runs (two earned) in his two innings of work.
Zach Walton retired one batter in the fourth before lefty John Sparks shut the Bruins down for four consecutive innings. It's a career-high in innings pitched by the freshman.
Right-hander A.J. Gaura was summoned to pitch the ninth, earning his fourth save on the campaign after sitting down Belmont in order.
