TEAM NOTES
Player of the Game: Alex Robles (4-for-5, HR, 2 RBI, 3 R)
Austin Peay (24-25, 15-15 OVC) dropped Game 3 of the series, 9-8, on Sunday against SIU Edwardsville.
Three crucial errors became APSU's downfall in the ninth inning, allowing the Cougars to not only tie the game, but take the lead.
The Govs tied a season high in walks with 11, and were also 23-0 when leading after eight innings prior to Sunday.
Alex Robles led the Govs offensively, going 4-for-5 which included his third home run of the season.
THE LINEUP
Ridge Smith… Smith was 1-for-5 with a RBI out of the leadoff spot in the order.
Cayce Bredlau… Bredlau went 1-for-3 with a walk before being replaced in left field.
Garrett Copeland… The second baseman hit his fifth home run of the season, going 1-for-4 overall.
Josh Wilson… Wilson went 0-for-4 on the day, including a hit by pitch.
Alex Robles… Getting his third start at first base, Robles went 4-for-5, his first four hit game of the season.
Dre Gleason… Serving as the DH, Gleason was 1-for-2 with a run scored before exiting for a pinch-runner.
Chase Hamilton… Hamilton was 0-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.
T.J. Marik… Starting at catcher, Marik was the second Gov to have two RBI after a single in the third.
Clayton Smithson… Smithson was 2-for-5, both of which were singles.
Patrick Massoni… Massoni pinch-hit for Bredlau in the sixth, recording a single in his lone at-bat.
Imani Willis… The freshman entered as a defensive replacement in center field.
Kyle Blackburn… Blackburn pinch-hit for Marik in the ninth, and went down on strikes.
ON THE MOUND
Austin Peay pitchers combined to allow nine runs (six earned) on nine hits.
Freshman John Sparks received his first career start in a Governor uniform, but went just 1 2/3 innings. It's the sixth OVC start of the season in which an APSU starter has failed to go two innings. The lefty gave up four earned runs with four walks and two strikeouts.
Caleb Powell was the next Gov to take the mound, lasting three innings with one run charged to his line, along with four walks. Levi Primasing would follow, facing the minimum through 1 2/3 innings.
Senior A.J. Gaura was handed the loss, dropping his record to 1-2 on the year. The right-hander went 2 1/3 innings, scattering three hits with four runs (two earned). Alex Robles, who started Game 1 of the series, moved from first base to pitcher to record the final out in the top of the ninth.
