CLARKSVILLE – Austin Peay State University's volleyball team makes plays its final nonconference weekend of 2019 when it heads north for the Ball State Active Ankle Challenge, Friday-Saturday, in Muncie, Indiana.
The Govs open the two-day event by facing host Ball State in a 6 p.m., Friday contest. Austin Peay returns to the court Saturday for a 9 a.m., Saturday contest against Missouri State before closing the trip with a 3:30 p.m., Saturday matchup against Wright State.
FROM THE SERVE
- Junior Chloe Stitt posted her first career 20-kill outing en route to earning Mizzou Invitational all-tournament honors last weekend. She led the Govs with 55 kills (3.67/set) and posted a .210 attack percentage.
- Junior Brooke Moore followed up her Week 3, Northwestern Under Armour All-Tournament Honors by posting 49 kills (3.27/set) and 42 digs (2.80/set) at last weekend's event at Missouri.
- Senior Ginny Gerig Busse became the ninth Govs defender to reach the 1,500-dig plateau with her outing against Stephen F. Austin in Evanston, Sept. 6. She has averaged 4.17 digs per set through three weekends.
- Senior Karli Graham continues to lead the Govs at the net, posting 12 blocks (0.80/set) at Missouri. She has averaged a block per set in five of the season's first 10 matches.
- Junior setter Caroline Waite set her career high in assists twice at Missouri. She had a then career-high 26 assists against Boise State, Sept. 13. The next timeout she bested that mark with 35 assists against Kansas City.
- The Govs victory against Texas Tech, Sept. 7, was their fourth win against a Power Five opponent during head coach Taylor Mott's tenure. It is the third consecutive year Austin Peay has downed a Power Five foe.
- Austin Peay is playing its first 18 contests on the road, the longest road trip in program history. The Govs will cover a total of 4,656 miles before opening the home portion of their schedule, Oct. 4, against Southeast Missouri.
- The Govs were picked to finish second in the OVC Preseason Predicted Order of Finish with a pair of Governors named to the 14-woman Preseason All-OVC team.
- While Austin Peay is the back-to-back defending Ohio Valley Conference champion, it will have a largely new look in 2019 it lost its top outside hitter, primary setter and top middle blocker to graduation.
