CLARKSVILLE – After dropping its first match of the season last time out, Austin Peay State University women's tennis bounced back and routed Illinois State, 6-1, in its home opener, Friday, at the Governors Tennis Courts.

Austin Peay (3-1) took control of the match early, with Fabienne Schmidt and Danielle Morris quickly winning a decisive 6-1 match on the No. 1 doubles line. The Governors then wasted no time claiming the doubles point, as Ana Albertson and Honoka Nakanishi won handily, 6-2, in the No. 3 doubles match to take a 1-0 lead over Illinois State (9-5).

With the doubles point already decided, Jana Leder and Aleks Topalovic picked up a win in the No. 2 doubles match, 6-3, just for good measure.

The Governors kept their foot on the gas in singles play, with Leder and Morris picking up quick wins in the No. 3 and No. 2 tilts to stretch the Austin Peay lead to 3-0. The decisive point came in the No. 4 singles match, where Martina Paladini-Jennings picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win for the Governors to claim the match.

After Paladini-Jennings match-clinching point, Schmidt and Nakanishi each picked up wins in their singles matches to stretch the Governors lead; but Topalovic dropped her singles match on the No. 5 line and Austin Peay picked up a 6-1 victory over Illinois State.
