MARTIN – Austin Peay State University women's tennis picked up its first Ohio Valley Conference win of the season when it went on the road and knocked off UT Martin, 4-3, Saturday at the Skyhawk Tennis Complex.

Austin Peay (6-3) got off to a fast start, with Fabienne Schmidt and Danielle Morris improving to a perfect 8-0 in doubles play by winning the No. 1 match to start the day. The Governors then wasted no time in securing the doubles point, with Ana Albertson and Honoka Nakanishi picking up their fourth win of the season in the No. 3 match to secure the doubles point.

With the doubles point already decided, Jana Leder and Aleks Topalovic led, 6-5, in the No. 3 match, but it was left unfinished.

In singles action, UT Martin made up for the doubles point in the first match to go final, knocking off Schmidt in the No. 1 match to even the score. But Morris quickly put the Govs back in front, handily winning the No. 2 match to give Austin Peay a 2-1 advantage.

The No. 3 singles match was the next to go on the board and Leder picked up a convincing 6-0, 6-2 win to stretch the Governors lead to 3-1. However, UT Martin once again had an answer and beat Martina Paladini-Jennings in the No. 5 match to cut the deficit back to one.

With just two matches left on the court, Austin Peay didn't let the match come down to the final point and Nakanishi picked up a hard-fought win on the No. 6 line to secure the Govs first OVC win of the season. With the match already decided, the Skyhawks knocked off Topalovic in the No. 4 match to get a point back and wrap up a 4-3 Austin Peay victory.
