A former star athlete at Austin Peay who returned for a distinguished coaching career... A starter in baseball, track and football for Austin Peay Normal during the 1937-38 and 1938-39 school years... Then returned to his native South Carolina to star for two years on the Clemson football team, which won the Cotton Bowl in 1940 and finished 7th in the nation... Returned to Austin Peay as assistant director of athletics in 1948, but was also the Govs’ football line coach between 1948 and 1953...In addition, he directed the baseball program from 1948-1969, with the exception of 1951-1954, when he was serving in the Korean War... His teams compiled a 133-146 baseball record, including 10 .500 or better seasons, two VSAC Western Division championships and an NCAA College Division Regional Title in 1962.
