Box Score MURRAY, Ky. - Austin Peay State University women's soccer team
had its offense fired up, but to no avail in playing to a scoreless tie at
Murray State, Sunday, in Ohio Valley Conference play.
Austin Peay moves to 9-4-1 overall with a 1-2-1
OVC mark, while Murray State improves to 2-9-3 overall with a 1-2-1 league
clip.
"I'm really pleased with our performance
today," head coach Kelley Guth said. "Even though we didn't score, we played
very well. We got back on track, as far as being dangerous in the attacking
third. We created a lot of opportunities and made them defend us."
The Lady Govs pounded the Racers with 21
shots, including four in the two extra periods, but Racer keeper Tara Isbell
held strong. Freshman Joceline Quiceno had a game-high eight shots, including
four on goal, while freshman Tatiana Ariza added four shots, three on goal.
Isbell finished with eight saves.
Austin Peay had five corners in the two
overtime periods, but could not get a shot on goal. The Lady Govs defense kept
the Racers at a safe distance during the extra time, holding them without a
shot.
For the game, Murray State managed only nine
shots, led by Sophie Hargreaves' three. Rachel Wright and Kalli McCoy also had
two shots each. APSU keeper Carley Newman made stops on all three Racer shots
on goal.
Since picking up a 1-0 win against Eastern
Illinois to open OVC action, the Lady Govs are 0-2-1 and have been held without
a goal. While Sunday's tie is the season's 10th shutout, it also
extends the team's winless streak to a season-high three games.
"It's all about how our team is playing on
the field and I believe the results will come," Guth said. "We need to gain
momentum from today's game. Every game is so close and such a battle. You have
to be able to execute and finish. I thought we had a bit of drop off the last
two games, but we were still competitive.
"The most important thing is that we come out
and play the way we did today. If we do that, the goals will come and the wins
will come."
