Player of the Game #1: Ridge Smith (2-for-4, two doubles, RBI, run scored)
Player of the Game #2: Dre Gleason (2-for-2, three RBIs, run scored)
Austin Peay (4-4) allowed the Broncos to rack up 24 hits in two games, which led to 21 runs.
Defensively, the Governors committed six fielding errors as a team, four in Game 2 of the doubleheader.
From a pitching standpoint, Austin Peay could not keep Western Michigan off the base paths, walking eight batters in Game 1.
Sophomore Ridge Smith was the catalyst in the Governor lineup, going 5-for-8 combined over the two games with two RBIs and two runs scored. He now leads the team in batting average with a .485 clip.
Alex Robles became the first APSU player to reach double-digits in RBIs, having two on the day to bring his season total up to 11.
THE LINEUP
Clayton Smithson… The shortstop went 1-for-7 over the course of two games with a RBI double in Game 2.
Cayce Bredlau… Bredlau had three hits combined, coming through with a two RBI single in the 7th inning of Game 2.
Logan Gray… The sophomore went 0-for-8 on the day, reaching base once with a walk, while also committed four errors.
Ridge Smith… Smith led the team with a 5-for-8 day, four of which were doubles, along with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Alex Robles… Serving as the designated hitter in both games, Robles went 3-for-8 at the plate - all singles - with two RBIs.
Garrett Copeland… Copeland offered consistency at the plate in Game 1 by going 3-for-4, but went 0-for-4 in the following contest.
Josh Wilson… Getting the start at first base, Wilson went 1-for-5 overall.
Kyle Blackburn… The junior started in right field in Game 1, going 0-for-3. He also had a pinch hit appearance in Game 2 which resulted in a fly out.
Patrick Massoni… Massoni went 0-for-3 in Game 1, and then batted for Bredlau in Game 2 to have a single and run scored.
Chase Hamilton… Hamilton started in center field for Game 2, going 1-for-4 with a run scored.
Caleb Mitchell… Mitchell got the start at catcher in Game 2, and went 0-for-4 at the plate.
Dre Gleason… Gleason did not play in Game 1, but took home Player of the Game honors in the second by going 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs.
Imani Willis… The newcomer had pinch hit appearances in both games, going 0-for-2 overall.
T.J. Marik… Marik was a defensive substitution in Game 1 and entered as a batter in the second, and was hit by a pitch, then scored, later on.
Wesley Purcell… Purcell was called off the bench in Game 1 and flew out to center in his only plate appearance.
ON THE MOUND
Austin Peay pitchers allowed nine runs on 11 hits in Game 1 of the doubleheader, while also walking eight batters with five strikeouts.
Junior Jared Carkuff took the loss, dropping his record to 1-2 on the 2015 season. He pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits, along with three walks and two strikeouts.
Michael Costanzo did not record an out after replacing Carkuff, allowing two earned runs with a pair of walks. Zach Walton scattered a pair of hits with one run allowed, Hunter Lindley gave up two runs and two hits in 1.1 innings, while Jake Corum ended the game with two hits and a walk permitted.
In Game 2, APSU pitchers gave up 12 runs on 13 hits. Senior Zach Hall was given the loss after pitching five innings with nine hits and six earned runs charged to his line. He also walked a pair and struck out five men. Zach Neff pitched the final three innings, giving up four hits, three runs (two earned), with three strikeouts.
