Postgame Notes: Govs vs. Tigers

  • Tonight's game against Tennessee State was a standing-room only sellout crowd of 12,201, which set the Fortera Stadium record.
  • The 49 points scored by Austin Peay against Tennessee State is the most in the series for the Governors. It eclipsed the previous record of 40 points the Govs scored in 2016 at Fortera Stadium.
  • It also was the Govs highest-point total in an OVC game since scoring 55 against UT Martin in 1996.

SERIES UPDATE

  • Austin Peay won its second straight game in the series against Tennessee State. It is the Govs first back-to-back wins in the series since winning three straight from 2009-11.
  • The Governors defeated the Tigers at Fortera Stadium for the first time since the 2011 season, engine a two-game losing streak at home to TSU.
  • Austin Peay is now 6-5 all-time against Tennessee State in games played in Clarksville.

HOME WIN STREAK

  • Austin Peay won its fourth consecutive home game dating back to last season.
  • It is the Govs longest home win streak since a four-game streak in 1986.

OFFENSIVE SPARKS

  • Kentel Williams scored the game's first points on a 15-yard run in the first quarter. He powered in a 3-yard score in the second quarter. It is his second multi-touchdown game of the season.
  • Ahmaad Tanner found the end zone for the first time this season on a five-yard run in the second quarter.
  • Baniko Harley hauled in a highlight-reel one-handed catch for 73 yards in the second quarter, the longest reception of his career.
  • The 73-yard pass completion was Oatsvall's second of the season, both coming in consecutive games.
  • Jeremiah Oatsvall scored on a 1-yard touchdown plunge in the second quarter, and a 20-yard rushing score in the third quarter. It is the second game in his career with two rushing touchdowns, and the first since Morehead State in 2017.
  • Austin Peay did not commit a turnover in the contest, it was their first clean sheet since Sept. 21, 2017 against Southeast Missouri.

DEFENSIVE STANDS

  • Austin Peay's defense recovered five turnovers – four fumbles recovered and an interception. Five different Governors recovered a turnover in the contest.
  • The Govs have forced at least one turnover in every game this season, and nine straight games dating back to last season.
  • With his second tackle in the game, Gunnar Scholato became the 15th Governor to reach the 300 tackle milestone.
  • Scholato led the Govs with 17 tackles, one shy of his career high. It is the third game this season and the 12th in his career in which he recorded double-digit tackles.
  • Austin Maloata recovered a fumble just before halftime for the Governors' second turnover forced. It marked the third consecutive game the Govs forced multiple turnovers.
  • Nate Howard recovered a fumble on mishandled exchange in the third quarter, he forced a fumble in the fourth quarter, recovered by Pat Walker. It is the first time the Governors have forced four fumbles in a game since recovering four against St. Joseph's (Ind.) in 2003.

SPECIAL TEAMS SPRINTS

  • Devin Stuart averaged 40 yards on his seven punts, including two downed inside the 20-yard line. He has averaged more than 40 yards punting in every game this season.
  • Kentel Williams finished with 224 all-purpose yards, including 139 kickoff return yards.
