Clarksville, Tenn. – Sophomore running back Kentel Williams, of the Austin Peay State University football team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Williams needed just nine touches to account for 167 yards of total offense in Austin Peay’s 38-31 Homecoming win against Southeast Missouri, Saturday. The Knoxville native rushed eight times for 148 yards and caught a pass for 19 more, averaging 18.7 yards each time he brought the ball into his possession.

Twice, Williams broke off big runs to aid Austin Peay’s attack. With under a minute to go in the first quarter, he found a hole and scampered 74 yards to give the Govs a lead they would not relinquish, and helped Austin Peay pad that advantage late in the second quarter with another 56-yard burst to set up Ahmaad Tanner’s touchdown plunge from a yard out.

Sunday, Williams was named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, his first weekly honor of the 2017 season and second in his Austin Peay career. The accolades continued to pour in on Tuesday, with Williams taking Tennessee Sports Writers Association Offensive Player of the Week honors.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Senior outside hitter Ashley Slay, of the volleyball team, led the Govs with 27 kills and a .357 attack percentage last week, notching 11 kills and six blocks against Belmont and a team-best 16 kills against Tennessee State.
  • Freshman quarterback Jeremiah Oatsvall, of the football team, tacked on adidas® OVC Newcomer of the Week honors after becoming the first Gov since Jake Ryan (2009) to earn the victory in his first start under center. He completed 13-of-22 passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns and added 66 yards and another score on 13 carries.
  • Senior forward Kirstin Robertson, of the soccer team, netted the game-winning goal to propel Austin Peay past Morehead State and into the 2017 OVC Women’s Soccer Tournament. The Ashland City native’s 76th minute blast was her season’s 11th goal.
