Clarksville, Tenn.–Senior Claudia Yanes Garcia, of the Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
The Spanish sensation led the Govs to sweeps of Tennessee State and North Alabama last week, running Austin Peay’s record to 13-0 on the season and keeping her own mark unblemished at 12-0.
She and sister Lidia have now won four straight matches at No. 2 doubles, with a 6-1 win against North Alabama and a 6-0, 6-1 drubbing against Tennessee State. In singles, Yanes Garcia parlayed a 6-0, 6-1 win against UNA’s Sydney Flesch at No. 2 into a chance at No. 1, where she took down Tennessee State’s Aarushi Kakkar in straight sets (6-4, 6-2). Â
The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.
