Clarksville, Tenn.–Redshirt junior utility player Parker Phillips, of the Austin Peay State University baseball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Phillips hit .539 (7-for-13) last week, launching four home runs to go with a double, four walks, six RBI and seven runs scored. He set the tone for the weekend series against Jacksonville with a first-inning homer, going 2-for-2 with three walks and scoring four times. He closed the series with his season’s fifth multi-homer game, numbers 49 and 50 of his career, on Senior Day no less, in an 8-3 win to clinch the series. He’s now one of five players in Ohio Valley Conference history with 50 career home runs.

Tuesday, Phillips made his latest contribution to the Austin Peay record book. His first-inning home run against Tennessee was his seasons 20th, breaking the school record he shared with Lance Wampler, who also was in attendance.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Junior utility player Kelsey Gross, of the softball team, was all over the diamond in a 3-1 weekend for the Govs. She picked up two wins in the circle against UT Martin and SIU Edwardsville, combining to scatter 11 hits and six runs across 11.0 innings, while contributing a .462 (6-for-13) mark at the plate, including a 4-for-5 day in the second game against the Skyhawks.
