Austin Peay State University Athletics

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Terry Taylor, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named this week’s APSU Athlete of the Week.

Taylor put up a pair of double-doubles in three games last week, leading the Govs to a pair of road wins. After a 15-point, eight-board performance at SIUE, he posted 30 points and 14 boards at Eastern Kentucky en route to becoming the program's all-time scoring leader, passing the legendary Bubba Wells. He finished the week with 28 points, 10 boards, two blocks and three steals while playing all 45 minutes of an overtime loss at Morehead State.

Taylor became just the third player in Ohio Valley Conference history and the first Governor to earn United States Basketball Writers Association Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week honor for his performance as a Gov last week. He also broke the OVC record with his 16^th career League Player of the Week nod.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

• Senior guard Tahanee Bennell, of the women’s basketball team, posted her first career double-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in Austin Peay’s win against Tennessee State.
• Junior Garrett Whitfield, of the men’s golf team, defeated Western Kentucky’s Aaron Pha 7&6 (up seven with six holes to play) to help lead Austin Peay to a 4.5-2.5 win against the Hilltoppers at Clarksville Country Club.
• Senior outside hitter Chloe Stitt, of the volleyball team, tallied 25 kills in a pair of sweeps against Tennessee Tech to open the 2021 spring season for the Govs.
