CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Senior Jessica Gray, of the Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Gray was runner-up in the women’s five-kilometer event at the Cross Country-Only National Invitational in Richmond, Virginia, Saturday, posting a personal-best 18:21.60 mark—the second time this season she has lowered her personal-best.

In Austin Peay’s final tune-up before the conference meet, Gray’s runner-up mark, mere seconds behind winner Adriana Cook of Marshall, was aided by Molly Jordan’s seventh-place finish in what would ultimately result in a third-place team finish in the event.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Junior running back Julian Franklin, of the football team, rushed for a career-high 102 yards, including his first career touchdown on a career-long 37-yard run in the second quarter, in the Governors loss to UT Martin.
  • Senior setter Aubrey Marsellis, of the volleyball team, posted 48 assists—including 32 against Tennessee State—and added 10 kills and 19 digs in a pair of matches last week for the Lady Govs.
  • Freshman Wesley Gray, of the men’s cross country team, broke the freshman five-mile record with a 25:45.60 at the Cross Country-Only National Invitational, finishing seventh overall.
  • Freshman Claudia Yanes Garcia, of the women’s tennis team, picked up a pair of wins in the qualifying rounds at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional at Purdue, defeating Andjela Djokovic (6-4, 6-2) of Purdue, and Alexandra Brinker (2-6, 6-3, 6-1) from Xavier, before falling in the opening round of the main draw. She also teamed with her sister Lidia for an 8-7(5) doubles win against Andela Brguljan and Marina Moreno of Evansville.
